It all started during the Second World War. The Tuscan Marquis Incisa della Rocchetta needed to appease his thirst for the quality Bordeaux wine that was impossible to find during the war, so he decided to make his own. Thus was born Sassicaia, the father of all Super Tuscans. As a result, everyone began to notice how blessed this corner of Tuscany, called Bolgheri, is for the cultivation of French varieties.
The Tenuta I Greppi winery, located in Castagneto Carducci, almost around the corner from the Tenuta San Guido winery of Sassicaia fame, is the result of a joint venture between two families: the Landinis of Fattoria Viticcio and the Cancellieri-Scaramuzzi family. Since the first vintage, up to its recent rise to fame with the inclusion of Greppicante 2007 on the Wine Spectator's Top 100 short list, this estate has produced gentle and elegant wines, which express the Mediterranean character that its grapes take on in the renowned lands of Bolgheri.
