Westmalle Trappist Dubbel

Brouwerij Westmalle (Malle, Belgium)
"The dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer from Westmalle, the Dubbel, contains a rich and complex taste thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle (7%). It is characterized by notes of caramel, malt and fruity esters reminiscent of ripe banana. The first introduction to the Westmalle Dubbel is a cream-colored thick foam head. After drinking, it leaves a beautiful lace in the glass. But the real reminder of this balanced Trappist beer with a soft mouthfeel is undoubtedly its long, dry finish."

Delicious and complex. Subtle.
There is a lot going on here ... roasted malt, caramel sweetness. Some ripe (peach?) fruitiness, and a vague hint of banana esters.
Very dry on the finish. Almost, but not quite, astringent.
Only downside? $7 for an 11.2 oz. bottle (well worth the price).

ABV 7%
